Famous fish dinnersFood you like, served the way you like it. Hand-battered North Atlantic cod, Great Lakes perch, steaks off the broiler and a salad bar with every dinner — on State Road since 1955.

The building went up in 1946 as the Davison Dairy and Dairy Bar. In 1955 Lauren “Whitey” Hilgendorf and his wife Molly opened a full-scale restaurant in it, and Davison has been eating here ever since.
In the shadow of the town’s first water tower, bounded by Grand Trunk, Mill and M‑15, Whitey’s became known to Davison and to a statewide motoring public for good food, a friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices. That was the idea in 1964. It still is: we hand-cut, hand-batter and prepare your meal from scratch, and we only use ingredients we’d put on our own table.

The banquet room is added — available for all types of gatherings.
New small group rooms open. “Whitey’s… growing with Davison!”
Still family owned. Still hand-battered. Still on State Road.

Been coming here since I was a kid and the cod is exactly the way I remember it. Light batter, thick fish, and the salad bar is the real deal.
The perch dinner is worth the drive from Flint. Friendly staff who remember your name, and take-out was hot and ready right when they said.
Old-school Michigan fish house. Chowder is house-made, the bread comes out warm, and the Friday fish is still the best in Genesee County.
