Who we are

A family company at its best when the whole town does well.

The Shiver family has supplied Southwest Georgia for a hundred and twenty-five years — first lumber, then everything it takes to build a home, roof it, and enjoy the land around it. Four generations in, the principle hasn't changed: treat people right and they'll come back.

Many of our people have been with us 20 years or more. Four have received Estwing's Golden Hammer Award for 50+ years in the building materials industry — including J. Willis Shiver Jr., who retired with over 70 years of service. That continuity is the product.

Our story

From a lumber brokerage to three companies.

The short version. The long version involves mules, a Navy contract and a 40,000 square foot drive-thru lumber shed.

  • 1900

    John Willis Shiver Sr. opens Shiver Lumber in Americus. A sawmill, planing mill and millwork shop follow.

  • 1940s

    The second generation supplies wooden crates to the U.S. Navy during World War II.

  • 1985

    Third generation computerizes the business and builds the drive-thru lumber yard.

  • 2014

    Fourth generation opens the Albany-area yard for builders and commercial contractors.

  • 2023

    Shiver Installed Sales launches roofing; Shiver Outdoor & Archery brings the family to Dawson Road.
